The Sarus Crane, co-existing harmoniously with the local communities in Delta
Myanmar shelters a significant amount of biodiversity that thrives across its mountains, lands, and wetlands. The Sarus Crane (G.a sharpii) faces threats from human activities in Myanmar and globally. Consequently, concerted efforts are being made to address this issue through research and the implementation of effective conservation measures. In Myanmar, the Sarus Crane occurs in various regions, including Kachin State, Shan State, Rakhine State, Bago region, and the Ayeyarwady Delta. Research records and data indicate that there are approximately 500 populations of Sarus Cranes in the Ayeyarwady Delta, while the remaining parts of Myanmar harbor smaller populations. In the Ayeyarwady Delta, Sarus Crane is a valuable species in accord to a great religious belief among the communities. Not only this species and humans have coexisted in harmony for a significant period of time, but also to encourage to maintain this sustainable approach to the conservation of Sarus Crane regarding to the conservation aspect.
